    Aww... love this quote:

Music is so deep within all of us, but it's easy to go for a day or a week or a month or a year without really listening to music. And the iPod has changed that for tens of millions of people, and that makes me really happy, because I think music is good for the soul.

    What a nice interview.

All this proves is that Beatles fans like to waste their money repurchasing music they already own just because it's available in a new format. I bet that most of the albums and individual songs sold were purchased by people who already own that album/song.
It's not wasting money. Buying a digital copy results in higher quality than ripping the original vinyl albums, and buying remastered releases results in better quality than original releases.

Just because you don't have the ability to understand the importance or the appeal of Beatles music doesn't mean those who can are wasting money by buying what they like. It's really amazing how many posters like to criticize something, just because they don't personally like it. That's why millions of musicians can be successful, because there are so many musical tastes.

Like what you like. Buy what you want. But don't be so infantile as to attack those whose tastes differ from yours.

or is there more expected from the update....like the true ipod video?

Can't see that happening - there would be a BIG fuss made over that, with Steve giving a keynote about it , and some "big at the moment" music act doing a live performance at the end.

I can't wait for Apple to start selling this somewhere pleasant. :(

    Like the apple store?

Lol, Joking....The Apple store, while certainly a "neat" place, has never been an all-around pleasant experience for me. The place is constantly packed to the brim with people just gawking and getting whatever they just picked up at the food court thoroughly smeared all over everything while they check facebook.

Hopefully that something invovles isight/front row displays that are more reasonable in price.

    Agreed. Dream prices:

    20"= $450
    24"=$600
    30"=$1000

They could always fill the $2k dispay spot with a 50", HDTV Capable display that supported 20 million pixles :D

I can't see 3D, so I guess I wouldn't get to experience the "magic." Poo.

Uh, isn't the world in 3D? I mean, we do see in three dimensions, correct? Is this a clever way of saying you are blind?

iTunes now provides access to an "Album Artist" tag which should help keep those duets and other collaborations in line without having to declare them as compilations.

Its something to do with apple TV's upgrade. I am guessing it will be totally wireless in terms of being able to buy content from the box itself. ala iPhone music store. That coupled with affordable and vast library of movie rentals.

Please god I hope so... a completely new :apple:TV would be a PITA as a decent layer of dust has not yet settled on mine!

Cutting through my own hypocrisy however, I'd personally (along with half the worlds geeks) love for it to be iPhone 2.0... 3G, 16/32 Gb and integrated satnav from Garmin... sorry 1.0 peeps :o

Looks like nothing has changed but the processor. Gentlemen, commence your bitching.
They also doubled the RAM on both 2GHz models, and I think they upped the superdrive as well (from 4x to 6x). And put slightly bigger hard drives, but the latter isn't really interesting.

    Minor upgrade, but upgrade nonetheless

Just ordered a silver 4GB with inscription for my girlfriend. It's her birthday present (from last month) and she got to choose the colour herself... :)

Ordered a Tucano Second Skin Guaina for my MacBook at the same time to save a buck on shipping... ;)

Now that the nanos look (and presumably feel) like the minis I might be tempted to get a nano, and not just a new battery, whenever my 1G green mini's battery decides to quit... a green 4GB nano would be a perfect replacement...

That's the main reason I'm upgrading. I know it will last atleast 4-5 years.
I don't know what people are fussing about. If these price points are true, Windows Vista is pretty cheap.

Remember, if you buy Vista, it'll most likely last at least 4-5 years before the next paid upgrade, unlike with OS X where if you want the latest and greatest, you're looking at an upgrade almost every year.

Vista looks to be a big jump from WinXP too, and seems a lot more mac-like. Complain all you want, but more competition puts Cupertino into a sweat and drives Apple into innovating even more. Support for Direct X 10 is going to be felt in about 1-2 years when people start getting DX10 graphics cards and more games take advantage of it.

    Well spoken, blitzkrieg79.

It is amazing to me that otherwise intelligent people parrot the corporate line that its simply not possible to manufacture products domestically and remain profitable. Do people really think that $80 name brand shirts, $140 shoes, or the $2500 computers being made on the other side of the planet are being sold at a price anywhere near what it actually cost to make? C'mon.

Why is it every time a company moves manufacturing overseas, we never see a reduction in the price?

If Apple was just barely squeezing out a profit and scraping by, holding on by their fingernails, I'd buy their line about needing to manufacture practically everything overseas, but we're talking about a company that makes absolutely enormous profits.

So Apple simply can't afford to manufacture here anymore? Well, how much profit did Apple make last quarter, again? Haha, sure, right.

It's business never personal, corporate sock puppets doing what they do.

As I've heard from those who've actually used Vista, Aero is the only reason to install it (thus far at least). Home Basic does not include Aero.

Assuming my Windows-using companions are correct, Home Basic thusly has nothing to offer. Hence, it is crap.

    Q.E.D.

    -Clive

But doesn't home basic include Direct X 10? which is the only reason I can see that I would want to buy a copy of Windows. To be perfectly honest Aero Glass looks like a POS, I would rather run the windows classic theme, it's much more attractive.

Wow, all of these vista versions, which one do I pick? I think I'm going to end up going with the Windows Really Good Edition™ (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/winrg.php).

    LOL that one's hilarious!

Now if we can come to accept that they're are in fact a number of problems within the black community (at least in the United States, I'm not particularly well aware of whats going on in the UK). I think they're are a number of things that can be done to mitigate the problem.

    First Social Welfare Programs:

We already have some of these and I'm not particularly well educated on what they provide but these are CRUCIAL. If you don't have a warm place to sleep and food to eat than your odds of being able to improve your situation are basically impossible.

Greater Availability of Birth Control and Education About the Same:

There is a reason that there are so many births happening out of wedlock in this community and you can bet it starts with people not using birth control or using it correctly. I would advocate for a greater availability of condoms and in particular the pill to just about anyone who wants it. No the pill doesn't stop the spread of STD's but I think it's a little more moment of total irresponsibility proof.

It's damn hard to get your life together if you've got a kid and no support system at age 16. And that kid isn't going to have the best opportunities either. If we can significantly reduce the number of un-planned children being born I think we'll have taken a big step towards improving the quality of life in African American communities (immediately and 15 years down the road).

Work With Community Leaders and Role Models

The black community has a bit of an overabundance of role models preaching totally irresponsible behavior (violence, drug use, under age sex). Its no wonder that kids who lack good role models are so inclined towards these same behaviors.

I think it might have an unexpectedly large effect on the black community of these role models could be convinced to change their tone, perhaps a bit less glorification of ****** behavior.
    Check out:

    Lupe Fiasco
    Brother Ali (though he's white)

A couple of hip hop artists who are a bit more socially aware.

I have a few more ideas but I'm tired of writing for now so I'll end this post.

I sure hope this is going to happen. I convinced my friend to buy a macbook and he just puchased one today. I have been trying to get him to hold off until the C2Ds were released. But, he desperately needs it for work since he is branching away from his current company. He needs one now. So, I hope he receives a C2D instead as a surprise.

Let's cut children school programs instead. That is the reality of the situation.

How about we cut sweetheart pension deals for politicians that pay them 100s of thousands of dollars every year.

or how about cutting Government useless spending budgets from 100s of thousands down to reasonable #s

That is if America is under immediate threat, hence Bush's big case about WMDs before invading Iraq. America was under no threat from Libya. The President cannot simply go to war because he feels like it. That is definitely not a power he has by the Constitution but it is a power he'll take nonetheless.

This was my impression as well. If correct, Obama has no business doing what he's done--right, wrong, paid for or not. Personally, I'm glad somebody's stopping Gaddafi from acting unchecked--but that doesn't excuse circumventing the constitution to do so.

That said, if the President does have the authority to call for such action irrespective of a clear and present danger to the security of the USA, then more power to him.

    Second.

Although... it could have just been fans who already owned pirated copies deciding that they liked the Beatles so much that they should legally download it.

I do that sometimes if I like something a lot and regret having pirated it.

So, if you steal something from the store, and feel guilty about it later, do you sneak in and try to put it back on the shelf? Just curious.
